The group has to have an elected committee to oversee and help the Group Scout Leader with the running of the group and the sections within it.
They meet to generally support the work of the group, but mainly to raise the funds needed to keep the group going. There is an executive comprising the Group Scout Leader, Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.
Members stand for a term of a year, running from the group's Annual General Meeting that is held in February or March each year. There are three executive posts that are taken by non-uniformed committee members; Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary.
Along with the GSL (Group Scout Leader) the committee members holding these three posts are responsible for the finances of the group. These posts are elected from within the existing committee members.
All section leaders (or their representatives) are invited to group
committee meetings. The remainder of the committee comprises parents
of existing members and various co-opted committee members (usually
parents of ex-members or ex-leaders) who officially should be elected
at the AGM. In reality, the committee is made up of whoever will volunteer!
Currently the committee has the following members
Chair: Ms. Sue Satchell (co-opted)
Treasurer: Mr. Stuart Duke (co-opted)
Secretary: Mr. Richard Thompsonl (parent)
Mr. Andy Cook (parent and ASL)
Mrs. J. Drew (parent)
Mr. Martin Jones (parent and BSL in training)
Mr. Richard Lamming (parent and ABSL)
Mr. Simon Lowe (representative of St.James PCC)
Mr. Craig McArthur (parent)
Mr. David Small (parent)
Ms. Kelly Darby (GSL)
Mr. Richard Darby (CSL), Mrs. Adele Lock, Ms. Kirsty Benfield or Mr. Matthew Robinson (ACSLs)
Mr. Dave Guest (SL), Mr. Nick Jones or Mr. Andrew Moseley (ASLs)
Mr. Kevin Slack (co-opted / helper)
As you can see, the ratio of parents to leaders on the committee is low. If you are a parent of a current, past or even future member of the group and you could spare a couple of hours a month to attend meetings or help with fundraising, please get in touch.
